Should Males Be Required to Pee Sitting Down?

Posted 2007-02-20 by BrashyBecky17. 172 voters
From Townhall.com -- Young women in Sweden, Germany and Australia have a new cause: They want men to sit down while urinating. This demand comes partly from concerns about hygiene -- avoiding the splash factor -- but, as Jasper Gerard reports in the English magazine The Spectator, ''more crucially because a man standing up to urinate is deemed to be triumphing in his masculinity, and by extension, degrading women.'' One argument is that if women can't do it, then men shouldn't either. Another is that standing upright while relieving oneself is ''a nasty macho gesture,'' suggestive of male violence. A feminist group at Stockholm University is campaigning to ban all urinals from campus, and one Swedish elementary school has already removed them. Some Swedish women are pressuring their men to take a stand, so to speak. Yola, a 25-year-old Swedish trainee psychiatrist, says she dumps boyfriends who insist on standing. ''What else can I do?,'' said her new boyfriend, Ingvar, who sits. -------------------- But I can think of another reason to ban urinals. They are a sexist waste of space and money. Because bathroom architects give extra places for guys to go, enabling them to pee while they stand up, guys are in and out, with little time wasted. Employers think this helps productivity and as a result women get crude remarks made to them, like ''what took you so long?'' The only reason we girls take longer to go than guys is because we obviously have to displace more clothing and then also sit. Guys merely walk up to a urinal, unzip and whip it out. I, however, have to walk into a stall, lock it, turn around, pull down my pants (or hold up my skirt), pull down my panties, sit down and then - finally - I can pee. Unequal restroom budgeting results in longer lines for women at concerts, ballgames, amusement parks. We therefore miss more of these events than men, despite having paid the same price for a ticket. My answer to the average guy who is probably outraged at my support to ban urinals? You've probably never suffered the embarrassment of wetting your pants while waiting in a long bathroom line at a ballgame or crowded club, as I have, and then had to walk back to your seat, totally humiliated, with everyone smirking or outright laughing at you. - Becky Romero full article from The Spectator

Well, as a guy i honostly don't care ether way. Though without urinials that would make the way we design mens pants and underwear sorta obsolete wouldn't it? so in the hypothetical world of, if we could force men to sit down to pee i'll give you that. on the condition that all western toilets are replaced with eastern style squat lavitory's. ;) but hey, i'm rooting for you. perhaps a 'movement' will one day be started in the bathroom sector, though what girl wants to be the 'watches you pee' woman on her resume would sort of be a throw back in my eyes to womans rights on the work place.

This poll is an unfair, seriously flawed and biased poll, intended to create some sort of support for why males should not be allowed to urinate standing up, as nature intended. It is obvious to me(and hopefully all others) that this is fundamentally an unfair question, and that this pollster is trying to force support for an isuue which only feminazis have a problem with.
ridiculous

Peeing standing up is quick and easy--wHY HAVE TO PULL YOUR PANTS DOWN AND SIT ON A TOILET IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO---AWHO WOUL;D ENFORCE THE LAW --'PEE POLICE--- IF YOU COULDN'T PEE STANDING IN A REST ROOM MORE GUYS WOULD BE DOING IT OUTSIDE
if low ceilings are placed above the toilet??

Not if low ceilings are placed above the toilet, so they have to sit Again, it shows you have no clue about boys and men and how to solve a women's problem. So how does this work - the short boys get to stand and the tall boys get their heads cracked open -- there's a creative thought! And to show just how counter productive this would be, and how little you know about guys peeing -- the boys would just stand at the sink or the floor drain and pee standing anyway or just go outside and pee in the open. That'll help your cleaning lady, won't it? [Shows respect to cleaning women (lots of guys can't aim) Not if girls monitor boys' restrooms, noting shoe direction And then do what? Would balance out budgets for restrooms equally Sure it would, but taking money for the women's toilets and putting it into the men's toilets -- Another stupid idea Will make men realize the pain of long bathroom lines Something more you never thought of -- when they put urinals into men's rooms, they do it at the expense of toilet bowls, so when a man has to poop, he too has to wait in long lines for other guys that are taking along time to poop too. It's common for a men's room to have only one bowl and 1 or 2 urinals. If the one bowl is in use, it can be a very long wait with no alternative. Women on the other hand, can use any stall for either function! You've probably never suffered the embarrassment of wetting your pants while waiting in a long bathroom line at a ballgame or crowded club, as I have, and then had to walk back to your seat I might not be able to remember is I had walked back wet, but for sure I remember having to walk back with a big brown load in my pants! You are so ignorant of both men and women's elimination functions as to be a joke. Not all women use the toilet the same way and not all men do either. Now, take what you are learning here (from men about women's toilet usage) and go help your fellow women to make better toilets and use them better.
If Becky can't control her bladder, maybe she should wear a diaper

Urinals, as you admitted, mean more men can use one bathroom and get done using it. The flaws of female anatomy are not our problem and it makes no sense to make bathrooms more inconvenient for men. That just means more inconvenience for men and doesn't help women in the least. Some women were demanding two toilets for every one male toilet, which is also silly, but at least makes sense. You're just being spiteful because you wet your pants. Well boo hoo. Next time go potty before you go to the game. Besides when you wet your pants, it reminds you that you're just a little girl. And if you can't control your bladder, maybe you should wear a diaper.
They'll only pee in another place!

Remove urinals in mens rooms and many will just pee elsewhere more so than they do now. At our neighborhood outdoor pool, we have a changing room for men and women, but no water (no showers, no toilets) while I've never seen it in the womens at closing I'll walk through the mens and notice most of them pi sed on the walls or floor. Outside bars, concerts, sporting events they all do it against a wall or a fence. My husband prefers to use the shower stall to the toilet and frankly he makes less mess doing so, so have at it. I don't have $%!@ envey, but I do have "balls envey" that is "I don't need to have a $%!@ to pee standing" "only the guts to do so publicly like men do" So grow some "balls" ladies.
i agree

i think all men should pee the same way as girls and as for making sure of it, having girls checking boys pee like girls is a great idea.
Respect for Others

In our home standing and peeing was never an option. My mother always insisted that us boys sit to pee. Her mission was two fold, she insisted that she had no intention of raising ruffians or cleaning up after boys who couldn't aim. Besides she said it was unhealthy to have all that corresponding splash in the air, not to mention all the perverts that watched you as they stood next to you using a urinal. Anyway, now I prefer it, though it is inconvenient at events with large crowds and she did have some good points. And I also do it out of respect for her.

No, I don't think men should be required to pee sitting down. I do agree with Becky in one respect though: men and women should have equal access to toilet facilities at public events. Ideally the line to the the men's room should be just as long as the line to the women's room. The right way to achieve this, though, is not by forcing men to pee sitting down but by building more restrooms for women. This was discussed on another forum, and one person had this to say: "All of the convention centers I've been to for the past few years (possibly as many as 10) have several sets of doors or partitions between the mens and womens rest rooms. This allows them to quickly change the number of stalls assigned to each side, as appropriate for the event taking place. Most sporting events move more stalls to the mens side, crafts fairs move them to the womens side, and so on." Another person shared the following anecdote about going to a rock concert with a female colleague of his from work: "The line to the ladies room was 3 miles long. After some coaxing, I 'walked' her, covering her eyes, through the pretty horrible mens room and into a stall. Standing guard outside the stall, I waited for the signal and again 'walked' her back past the urinals (including a trough urinal as I recall). Fortunately no one got too upset." Similarly: "People to this day love to tell the story of how my mom used to be in a long line of women trying to use the restroom before the show resumed, while the men's room line was non-existent. My mom would announce to the long line of women in a loud voice: 'why should we have to stand in line while the men don't, come on, let's go!' and she'd proceed to lead a whole bunch of women into the men's room." Should Becky be Required to ask permission from a man before going potty?
